NIST Develops New IR Laser-Based Accelerometer to Make Cars Safer

The NIST-developed accelerometer is only a mere millimetre thick. It uses laser light instead of mechanical strain to produce a signal. It is more straight-forward than other light-reliant accelerometer prototypes with much higher accuracy.
